STAY WOKE: VIOLA DAVIS

Day #9 Viola Davis, aka Annalise Keating from the hit show How to Get Away With Murder. This is another "if you don't know her I don't know where you've been" moment. Viola's resume is extensive and reminds me that I need to work harder lol! In recent news Viola became the first African American to win an Emmy for best actress in a drama. If winning wasn't enough she killed her acceptance speech.

"In my mind, I see a line. And over that line, I see green fields and lovely flowers and beautiful white women with their arms stretched out to me, over that line. But I can’t seem to get there no how. I can’t seem to get over that line.’

That was Harriet Tubman in the 1800s. And let me tell you something: The only thing that separates women of color from anyone else is opportunity.

You cannot win an Emmy for roles that are simply not there. So here’s to all the writers, the awesome people that are Ben Sherwood, Paul Lee, Peter Nowalk, Shonda Rhimes, people who have redefined what it means to be beautiful, to be sexy, to be a leading woman, to be black.

And to the Taraji P. Hensons, the Kerry Washingtons, the Halle Berrys, the Nicole Beharies, the Meagan Goods, to Gabrielle Union: Thank you for taking us over that line. Thank you to the Television Academy. Thank you."

what did I say? Killed it! I love that she was confident enough to say exactly what she was feeling and also shouted out her fellow black girl magic team members at the same time.  For more info on Viola click here

Design wise I love the color of her dress and wanted to do something in that shade. She looks very elegant so for texture I wanted to add in something that resembled that. We're all a fan or marble floors, right? She's really glowing and flowers just seemed appropriate. On a side note I've been so busy with black history collages I haven't actually wrote a blog post that isn't related to that so I'll get on that soon.
